Vickey Russell grew up on a farm in Nashville, TN. Where both of her parents were in the dog business. Her father was a professional dog handler and trainer while her mother owned and operated a boarding kennel and grooming shop. Vickey remembers showing her first dog at such a young age that she did not even know her right from her left. “They had to tie a string around my finger so I’d know which direction to take my dog!”

Vickey has been involved in various dog training venues such as obedience, agility, conformation, and most recently herding. She has competed and attained top titles, but her passion for training is greater than her competitive spirit.

When you talk with Vickey you will quickly realize the true compassion she has for animals. She is passionate about rescue animals which is evident by the fact that 3 of her 5 dogs are rescues. Purebred or mix breed she strongly believes that proper training can transform any dog into a loving and lifelong companion.

When you visit Blue Dog Academy don’t be surprised if you find Vickey on a walkabout with the dogs or out in the field with her sheep.
